Manners do Matter

For many years now I have often wondered what has happened to good manners. Do we still consider other people enough to show them good manners, or are we all wrapped up with ourselves? Consideration is not just a question of manners or etiquette. People who are thoughtful create a sense of well-being and contentment in themselves and other people. It is not a difficult practice to learn and it takes very little action to earn respect from others.

This E-Book includes examples of good manners, consideration and the benefits we enjoy when we do something simple and nice for someone else. Some negative actions are included to demonstrate what not to do.

Excerpt from ‘Manners Do Matter’

Thoughtful: Mary-Jane had to go out of town for a few days on business. Rather than stay in a hotel she decided that she would stay with her cousin. Of course, her cousin Jinny was delighted and the two of them had a wonderful gossipy time, catching up on all the news and sharing many common interests. Being with Jinny each evening more than made up for the hard grind at work during the day. When she arrived home, Mary-Jane immediately wrote a thank you letter to Jinny.

Benefit: Mary-Jane was pleased after she had written the note, because she knew that Jinny had really put herself out, especially with the cooking. Jinny, who was still worrying a little as to whether Mary-Jane had enjoyed herself, was thrilled to receive the written confirmation from her cousin.

When people have to work or take specific actions to accommodate other people, it is always nice for them to know that their efforts have been appreciated. If writing is not possible (there are very few situations where it is not possible), a telephone call will do as a poor second choice.
